 Our Roots
Heyward Porter, founder of Porter’s Electric Motor Service, Inc., enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942, and participated in 28 missions as a turret gunner. With the end of World War II, he returned to his hometown of Blacksburg, South Carolina and married his high school sweetheart, Lois Cobb.
After attending school on the GI Bill and learning the electric motor repair trade, Mr. Porter opened Porter’s Electric Motor Service in 1948. Since then, the business has grown into a 40,000 square feet facility with a reputation for high-quality service and competitive pricing.
